Ousted Kyrgyzstan: UN must send peackeepers

Kyrgyz ousted leader was quoted by a news agency saying that the UN should deploy peacekeepers to the countries of Central Asia to prevent further unrest.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev said the news agency RIA Novosti of Russia on Sunday that police in the nation and the army are too weak and incapable of preventing violence from spreading.

Bakiyev had fled the capital, Bishkek, on Wednesday after a protest against corruption, rising utility costs and the deterioration of human rights has exploded in police firing and the chaos that has left at least 81 dead and caused buildings protesters storm government.

Bakiyev said he wants an international commission to investigate the circumstances of violence in Bishkek and willing to respond if it determines that he was to blame.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (AP) - The head of Kyrgyzstan's interim government said it faces a growing public pressure for the former president of the Central Asian countries to justice.

Roza Otunbayeva statement issued on Sunday reflected the tougher stance of the new authorities as they grow increasingly impatient with the refusal of the ousted president, Kurmanbek Bakiyev to resign. Otunbayeva and others have offered security guarantees if Bakiyev resign voluntarily.

Bakiyev had fled the capital, Bishkek, on Wednesday after a protest against corruption, the rising cost of public services and the deterioration of human rights has exploded in police firing and the chaos that has left at least 81 dead and caused buildings protesters storm government. It is believed to be at home in the region of Jalal-Abad in southern Kyrgyzstan.
